Visualizing & Verbalizing™ for Language Comprehension
Increasing reading comprehension
This two day workshop provides teachers and speech language pathologists with training and practice in the Nancibell® Visualizing and Verbalizing™ Program. Participants will gain an understanding of how mental imagery is directly related to language comprehension, the ability to connect to and interpret meaning from spoken and written language. Students begin by describing simple pictures and increase their reading comprehension over time by visualizing words, sentences, paragraphs, and longer texts. Mental imagery is found to improve students’ reading and language comprehension skills, listening, oral language expression, abstract thinking and ability to follow directions
Throughout this workshop, we’ll explore the often hidden connection between retaining written and spoken information and well developed visualization skills. Incorporating Visualizing and Verbalizing™ for Concept Imagery, this systematic training provides hands on facilitation to increase each student’s ability to effectively retain written and spoken information.
Seeing Stars® for Symbol Imagery
Strengthening reading fluency
This two day workshop gives teachers training and practice in symbol imagery for phonemic awareness, sight word development and spelling. Symbol imagery, the ability to visualize letters in words, can help improve students’ letter and word recognition, fluency, and spelling skills. Participants will learn how to implement Seeing Stars® in one-on-one, small group and whole class settings.
Symbol imagery strengthens the assimilation of imagery and language. This integrated reading and spelling program assists in the development of independent, fluent readers by utilizing symbol imagery. Sight words are incorporated with symbol imagery techniques, building on visual fluency in decoding and encoding. The program introduces syllable types, breaks down the sounds linguistically and visually into syllables, and then identifies how to locate those syllables in multi-syllable words. Incorporating Lindamood's Seeing Stars®, this two-day workshop provides specific steps of imaging letters for phonemes through multi-syllable words helping to establish reading and spelling in context.
